Quantum Security Overview
Quantum has been designed with security as a core principle, protecting both patient information and customer data using modern cybersecurity standards and best practices.
All communication with Quantum is encrypted using industry-standard TLS encryption, ensuring that information remains protected while travelling between the ultrasound scanner, web browser and server. Data stored within the system is also protected using secure, industry-standard encryption on infrastructure operated to recognised information security standards.
Access to patient information is tightly controlled. Every request passes through a secure application server where the user's identity and permissions are verified before access is granted. Users can authenticate using their organisation's existing systems, such as Active Directory, LDAP or Single Sign-On, allowing organisations to retain full control over user accounts and permissions.
Passwords are never stored in a readable format. Instead, Quantum uses modern cryptographic hashing techniques that follow current OWASP and NIST cybersecurity guidance. Secure session management automatically signs users out when appropriate, protects against unauthorised access on shared clinical workstations, and includes safeguards against password guessing and brute-force attacks.
The software has been engineered to minimise common cybersecurity risks rather than simply responding to them after they are discovered. It incorporates multiple layers of protection against well-known web application vulnerabilities, follows the internationally recognised OWASP Top 10 security recommendations, and undergoes automated security testing throughout development. Security updates, software dependencies and vulnerabilities are continuously monitored as part of the release process.
Security-related events, such as logins and session activity, are recorded in dedicated audit logs to support governance and compliance. Optional telemetry is available where required and can be disabled entirely for offline installations.
Quantum has been developed with UK and EU GDPR compliance in mind. Patient information is processed only for legitimate clinical purposes, while any data used for quality improvement or system development is de-identified before analysis. Published privacy information is available within the application, and organisations retain control over their own data.
